Happiness can come from anything. We try to find some big moment where happiness takes over us but in reality it can be the smallest of things that bring it to us. Here are 3 quick ways to start building your happiness.
1.Set a low bar for happiness
I like to motivate myself by setting a low bar for happiness. After work, I might go and treat myself to some chocolate. Or maybe after finishing my homework I might start on that new drama I always wanted to watch. Even go out to your favourite restaurant or go and watch that movie you’ve been dying to go to all week. It’s the little things that we can enjoy that makes us happy. Even if it’s just in that moment while we’re eating or watching, it can still bring us happiness.
2. Be kind to others
Do something kind today. Listen to someone, give helpful advice to someone who needs it. Give someone a hug or even open the door for someone in need. Take a bit of time out of your day to make someone else’s day, you’ll realise what a huge difference that makes in lifting your mood and giving your life some happiness. Appreciate it for a moment, pat yourself on the back. That one small gesture could have been life changing for that person, whether or not that person had a rough day or even a rough week they at least know that someone out there cares enough to stop and help them. Don’t underestimate the kind gesture.
3. Put yourself first
I get it, life gets in the way. We all have our own problems and stress to deal with. But once in a while put yourself first. Open a bottle of wine, watch your favourite TV show, indulge in yourself. You need a break, we all do. You’re not a superhero, you can’t do everything at once even though you wish you could. And at some point, we all need to relax and gather back our strengths before attacking our next quest. So for now, think about yourself. What do you love to do? What’s your escape in life? Take a mini vacation, for now, you deserve it.
